Ayurvedic Health Educator – Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist – Registered Yoga Teacher 500
My journey into yoga began in early 2006, though it had always felt inevitable. A touch of grace brought me to my first class and I was hooked. Over the years the strength of my practice ebbed and flowed until it became clear that I needed to establish yoga as a consistent part of my life. I entered the Devanadi Yoga 235 hour teacher training and a whole new world opened up for me. I learned to see asana (postures), pranayama (breath techniques), and meditation from a therapeutic perspective, capable of bringing healing to all levels of body, mind and spirit. My graduation from the Devanadi Yoga 340 hour teacher training followed, which served to deepen my connection to these tools and technologies.
I am also certified as an Ayurvedic Health Educator and an Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist. Ayurveda is the sister science to yoga, with a focus on creating and maintaining balance and wellness for daily life in this busy modern world. For me, yoga and Ayurveda are inseparable and each science works to super-charge the efficacy of the other. Through an understanding of our prakriti (individual nature) Ayurveda helps us see ourselves in the context of our world, which brings greater self acceptance and self love. From a place of balance, we are able to meet each day with compassion. I am passionate about sharing the wisdom of these traditions with others while continuing on my path as an Ayurvedic Practitioner student at the California College of Ayurveda.
My daily personal practice is rooted in these teachings and in turn my practice inspires my classes and wellness work. A highlight for me each week is volunteering at the VA Hospital’s Spinal Cord Injury Center with their Adaptive Yoga Program, using chair based yoga to bring the benefits of the practice to veterans of all levels of ability. I have used these same chair yoga techniques with great success in a corporate environment to bring relaxation and mindfulness to the work day.
It has been my incredible fortune and true pleasure to study with Tanya Boigenzahn, Ben Vincent, Dr Vasant Lad, Dr Rolf Sovik, Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Dr Indu Arora, Lauren Toolin, Yogarupa Rod Stryker, and Dharma Mittra among others. I am so grateful for the guidance and support of these exceptional teachers and the entire community. Love and light!!
